If you have a smart phone or GPS device, you can key in the address:
20 Rhoades Street, Bay Center, WA. (This is the correct spelling of "Rhoades.")
However, the cell phone signal in Bay Center is sketchy so you may want to
consult your mapping program in a place where you have good reception.
South Bend is probably the last stop before Bay Center to have good reception.
It takes a little under 2 hours 45 minutes to get from downtown Seattle
to Bay Center if you don't stop. I would advise hewing pretty closely to
the speed limit, especially between South Bend and Bay Center. Police
patrol it constantly and seem to miss nothing. Apparently, traffic tickets
are one of the basic industries of Pacific County.
Take I-5 south to Olympia, take US 101 exit (to ocean beaches and
Aberdeen). Before long, US 101 peels off to the north toward Shelton and
Port Angeles.
Do NOT follow 101 at this point, but rather continue ahead
on State Route 8. After 20 miles or so, this road turns into State Route 12.
Continue on until you come to the town of Montesano.
At Montesano, exit SR 12 and turn left under the freeway, which puts
you onto State Route 107 going southwest. It runs into US 101. Take
US 101 south to Raymond, through Raymond, and through South Bend.
About 10 or 12 miles out of South Bend on US 101, you will cross the
Palix River and immediately see a sign saying "Bay Center Dike Road."
Turn right onto the dike road and follow it about 2 1/2 miles until you reach
the Dock of the Bay tavern. At the tavern, turn right and go across
the channel bridge, up a short incline. Take a right at the first street
(Rhoades Street) and go to the end of Rhoades Street, past the street
coming in from the left (First Street), past the light green metal warehouse
structure. Take the gravel/grass driveway to the right. Park over
towards the propane tank.
Our address is 20 Rhoades Street and there is a "20" on a post supporting
a canopy by the front door of the house. (The house is yellow/tan with a
green roof and barn-red trim and white windows.)
